content management systems

As a talented team of developers building new and interesting solutions from scratch it is easy to imagine that Storm ID would not want to talk about third-party software and products which are available in the market place. This is not at all the case.

Products

We have found over the years that existing products and frameworks can be harnessed to deliver highly compelling solutions. Take MOSS 2007, this is a top class product with an incredible price. It offers a fantastic framework in which to develop whilst offering a staggering number of preconfigured templates to get you started. Without coding at all it is amazing what can be achieved. Storm have fully adopted MOSS 2007 as a framework of choice for high-end CMS and collaborative internal environments. It is a well supported and documented product which is proving to be highly performant and stable as well as incredibly flexible. When working with MOSS 2007 and other products the emphasis at Storm becomes one of sculpting a solution which meets our clients' needs as well as getting the best out of the product being used. We work hard to ensure that a product is the correct fit for a solution and then use our expertise in consultation, design and configuration to make the whole solution work. Where new functionality is required we are ready to build it to specification and our ability to work within a framework and use an API is increasingly important in the work that we do.

Storm CMS

The concept of a CMS is not new and having built literally hundreds of CMS solutions over the years it is not surprising that Storm have managed to distill all the good ideas into a package that makes delivering the most requested functionality into a framework with a set of controls that allows us to deliver a good deal very quickly. It has never been our intention to create an off-the-shelf product but it is hard to beat the speed and build quality we get for a continually improved and maintained CMS solution. So what does the Storm CMS offer?

The Storm CMS is a fully featured publishing framework built on the latest Microsoft technologies with strong community and social networking features. It currently supports around 15 large websites, online communities, and membership networks for our clients.

The CMS offers full structural control over the navigation and site structure. A highly sophisticated information architecture can be supported. The CMS is designed to scale with growth using lister controls, paging tools, nested navigation configuration and content archiving.

Storm’s content management system has been developed using the latest Microsoft .NET2 technology. It has been written in C# and ASP.NET and we use Microsoft SQL server database.

The CMS meets the highest compliance standards for accessibility and code such as XHTML compliance, correct semantic and structural mark-up of templates and WC3 AA compliance out-of-the-box.

The CMS is also optimised to support high ranking of the web site in search engines allowing full control over page and url naming.

Content management system Plug-ins

The content management system is highly flexible and scaleable offering an extensive library of built in “controls” or plug-ins that can be added to the site through the content management system to create new interactive features with the minimum of effort and cost. No coding skills are necessary to add the controls or manage the interactive features of the site.

Many of the controls have extended interactive properties that can be configured through the CMS to control how they perform, behave and look.

The Control Library includes:

  • Document libraries
  • Content categorisation and auto related groupings
  • Aggregation
  • News listers and events calendar
  • Notice boards/Forums
  • Image Galleries
  • A-Z Lister
  • Product catalogue and shopping basket
  • Votes
  • Registration and authentication
  • Members profiles
  • Site campaign management banners
  • Email subscription and html/plain text templates

Site Search

A powerful and supportive Lucene Symantec search engine will be used alongside a Microsoft SQL Server Database to provide the site search functionality of the webs site. Lucene will allow users to:

  • Search the html content of the web site
  • Search any database or directory content
  • Search through the content of document resources such as MS Office and PDF documents

Bespoke Builds

As a bespoke software development house with a commitment to the rapid development of high quality software we pride ourselves on being able to create solutions that get to parts that off-the-shelf solutions just can't reach. We continue to innovate to produce highly compelling products and increasingly sophisticated administration suites and we would be happy to address your new ideas to provide the next generation of CMS or highly specific solutions that are tailored to your needs.
